Were adjusting!

Joy's first ride on the green machine!

She sleeps with her legs sticking out of the slats.  Whatever works for her!

She is a happy girl!

She puts everything in her mouth!  Finding out about her world by tasting it all!

So sweet!

We have been to the cleft team at Children's Hospital in B'ham.  We found out that she has fluid behind both eardrums and on the hearing test, she didn't respond until the sound was at 60 decibles.  I think the audiologist said 20-25 decibles is good.  She is scheduled for surgery to repair her cleft palate and put tubes in her ears the end of July.
She is sleeping well and we are adjusting well.  It is still hard to communicate.  I don't know how much she is hearing or understanding us.  We are trying to sign some words to her in hopes that she will pick it up and start signing to communicate specific needs to us, like bottle, water, outside, go, yes, no.  So far, she just archs her back and starts crying when we don't do what she wants.
She should start seeing an occupational therapist in the next couple of weeks.  We have tried offering a sample of vegetables.  The first few times, she tried the food, but spit it out.  Now, she refuses to open her mouth.
Overall, she is adjusting so well. She seems to be happier and more laid back as each day passes.  She knows her mommy, daddy, and brothers.  But it will take a while for her to realize that this is not just another place she will stay for a while, but that this is her home.  We will keep telling her and someday soon she will be able to hear us and understand us!
Thank you all so much!  Gotta go, Joy is calling!
